Hats Off to those who initiated this wonderful campaign due to which dowry has been returned by the grooms’ families.  Below is the report: A silent and unique social transformation is sweeping the Muslim community in Jharkhand’s Palamu region, with hundreds of families returning dowry they had taken during their sons’ weddings. Over the last […]

8 Reasons to NOT Send Your Daughter to College-Final Part

Here are the reasons to NOT send your daughter to college: 1. She will attract the wrong types of men. I share the common concern addressed to us, again mainly by angry women, that there are so many lazy men in our society. But what mystifies me is why girls continue to marry them and […]

8 Reasons to NOT Send Your Daughter to College- Part1

Probably the most controversial and rejected position we have at Fix the Family is that parents should not send their daughters to college. It is even more vehemently opposed than the submission of wives to their husbands. Both of these positions we have are a threat to the trophies of the feminist agenda, so the […]

Dear Readers, While watching a video about the recent suicide of a six month pregnant woman who was also a mother of two children, it pained me a lot.  She committed suicide as she was being tortured for more dowries.  On the other hand, I was startled when I read about the facilities provided in […]

MIL (Mother-In-Law): Dear Daughter-In-Law (DIL), While I was seeking a bride for my son, I had made it clear that we are against the evil practice of dowry system. Main aur Meri Tanhai

| January 19, 2015 | 20 Comments

Bridegroom:

Main aur meri tanhai aksar yeh baatein kartein hain
Dahej na hota to keisa hota,
Main aur meri tanhai aksar ye baatein karte hain

 Bride:

Ye kahaan aagaye hum, in riwaajon pe chalte chalte
Saari rasmon ko apnakar merey jism-o-jaan pighalte
Saari rasmon ko apnakar merey jism-o-jaan pighalte
Ab yahaan aagaye hum, in riwaajon pe chalte chalte

Bridegroom:

Ye car hai, Jo meri subse badi chahat hai,
Magar mein bhi is car ko khareed sakta hoon.
Ye TV, Ye Fridge, Ye Washing Machine, bahut acche hain, lekin
Ye mujhe bahut asaani se kiston par milte hain.
Ye rupyon ki sarsaraahat, kabse mein sun raha hoon
Ke tumko bhi pata nahi
Agar dahej nahin, tho sahi, Magar Tum to meri ho sakti ho
Phir ye samaj kyun taana de raha hai
Ke dahej nahin hai, nahin hai, kahin nahin hai.

Bride:

O, tu Engineer hai, tho mein hun MBA
Tu gharpe hai, mein daftar pe
Mujhse byah karne waley
Tu wahaan hai mein Yahaan hoon
Hamein milna hi hai humdum
Bin dahej ke tu to haan karde Jaanam
Ye kahaan aagaye hum, in riwaajon pe chalte chalte

Bridegroom:

Magroor maabaap idhar hai, par
Majboor maabaap udhar bhi hain
Shahnaai ki ek raat, idhar bhi hai udhar bhi
Maangne ko bahut kuch hai magar kis mooh se kahein hum
Kab tak yun hi maangte rahein aur sitam sahein tum
Dil kehta hai dahej ki har ek rasm utha den
Dahej ki deewar jo hum dono mein hai, aaj gira de
Kyun riwajon me sulagte rahein logon ko bata de
Haan humko dahej se nafrath hai, nafrath hai, nafrath hai, nafrath
Ab dil mein yahi baath idhar bhi hai, udhar bhi

Bride:

Ye kahaan aagaye hum, in riwaajon pe chalte chalte

    Fayaz,

While I understand the plight of girls/families suppressed under dowry. I would also suggest that there should be forum where girls of marriageable age but not getting married cause of dowry, could be highlighted. There are enough people who are looking for brides without any dowry. Wonder where is that universe missing.

I agree with your suggestion. A platform where families who are ready to marry their sons without any dowry could be established to make marriages easy.

No, No, No, my efforts are only a drop in the ocean. There are many people, organizations who are fighting this evil system. We may not be able to completely eradicate this evil from the society but there’s a hope that the society understands the pain and suffering of many women and stops being part of this evil system.
