Contact: Mr. Kamzor Abu Bhikari, No.1, Ego Street, Beghairat Mohalla, Dowry Mandi, Asian Subcontinent.

All of us have heard the poem “Baa baa black sheep, have you any wool?  Yes sir, yes sir, three bags full!”

Yes, many bags of marriage brokers are full of photographs of girls along with the aforesaid lists.  The first thing that anybody asks even before seeing the girl is about the list in order to proceed further.  The custom of giving and receiving dowry has become a norm and this little sweet habit has torn apart the fabric of our Society.

Let alone demanding dowry, giving dowry willingly also amounts to partnership in this crime.  If at all parents wish to give anything to their daughters, it is education, good manners, moral values and skills necessary for the marital journey. Without these, any amount of wealth given will not aid or add to the marital bliss.

There are also parents who say, we do not want anything, it’s your will and wish.  The words “will and wish” are wide open in meaning and the girl’s parents are again left clueless and helpless.

We hope that a day will soon herald when parents would feel proud to say; God Almighty has blessed us with the required materialistic things and our son has enough financial capacity to meet all the requisites for a married life.  What we need is a daughter-in-law, a life-partner for our son and nothing more.

God will certainly bless these families with abundance and happiness aplenty for they have removed a great obstacle from the path of another family. When every family takes a firm stand not to give or demand dowry in any form, the Society will soon get rid of the mother of all evils.

Are you willing to support this cause and aid the Society?

  1. The “will and wish” tag line is more dangerous than direct demand. Its like known enemy and an unknown one. While you have concentrated basically on the social evil of dowry my focus is more on the post- marriage relational issues, both requiring immediate overhaul.

A very well meaning post. You are really working for a great cause. Such blogs can be instruments of social change. Thanks for your presence in my blog. Please keep contact. Thanks and Regards

Thank you Geetashree for dropping by and for your encouraging and kind comments.

You are right, those who expect dowry but do not want to be open just say the words “as per your will and wish” which is wide open and more dangerous for the bride’s parents.
